Professor Nicola Marzari awarded one of 2025 Feynman prizes by Foresight Institute

We are proud to share that Professor Nicola Marzari, board member of the Quantum ESPRESSO Foundation, has received one of the 2025 Feynman Prizes for outstanding contributions to nanotechnology, awarded by the Foresight Institute. The motivation reads

“For developing the theoretical and computational infrastructure that underpins modern atomically precise materials discovery.”

Established in 1993, the Feynman Prizes recognise exceptional accomplishments in nanotechnology. They have a strong track record of anticipating future Nobel laureates: in 2007, the prize went to Sir Fraser Stoddart, who won the Nobel Prize in 2016, and to David Baker, who received it two decades before his Nobel Prize in 2024. This year’s winners are Nicola Marzari (Theory Prize), for developing the theoretical and computational infrastructure that underpins modern atomically precise materials discovery, and Nobel laureate Ben L. Feringa (Experiment Prize), for pioneering the control of molecular motion.

Earlier this year, Marzari was elected to the prestigious Cavendish Professorship of Physics at the University of Cambridge and received the 2026 David Adler Award in Materials Physics from the American Physical Society.

The entire Quantum ESPRESSO Foundation is delighted to extend its heartfelt congratulations on yet another prestigious prize, adding to Marzari’s remarkable record of achievements.

Congratulations, Nic!
